Secretly Healthy Chocolate Brownies

You know when you end up with bananas that are turning black with ripeness and you know that they are never going to be picked from the fruitbowl and many would just bin them. DO NOT BIN THEM! They are perfect still and make the tastiest secretly healthy chocolate brownies. These are also vegan and dairy/gluten free – perfect for a quick snack or dessert with some fruit and yoghurt of choice.



1 Large Over Ripe Banana

3 Large Medjool Dates, pitted and soaked in boiling water for at least 30 mins

Few drops Vanilla Extract

30g Agave/Honey/Maple Syrup – whichever you prefer to use as the sweetner!

40g Flour of choice (I use either oat, teff, coconut, almond or a mix!)

10g raw cacao powder (or 7g cacao and 3g lucuma powder)

5g baking powder

Potential add ins- Walnuts, pecans, cranberries, sub 10g flour for 10g protein, desicated coconut, cacao nibs etc etc…

Serves 4



Heat the oven to 170 degrees,

Peel the banana and add to a high speed food processor along with the dates and blend till smooth,

Add the vanilla and sweetner of choice and blend again,

In a separate bowl measure out the flours, cacao (lucuma if using)  and baking powder,

Stir the wet ingredients into the dry and fold – add your optional extras

Add to either bun cases or silicone moulds and bake for 20-25 minutes until firm but still slightly gooey on the inside


{Top Tip – for protein brownies sub 10g of flour for protein powder of choice – if using choc add less cacao if using vanilla add less extract} <3 xx
